Ida Mae Specker is an old-time fiddler, vocalist, songwriter, educator, and radio host from southern Vermont. Alongside her father, legendary Vermont fiddler John Specker, Ida Mae performs a singular take on old-time music — anchored in tradition yet audacious in originality. The late VPR host Robert Resnik called the Specker family “Vermont Folk Heroes.” She has shared the stage with Jeremy Dutcher, Mali Obomsawin, Donna the Buffalo, Caitlin Canty, and Jake Blount, and has performed at venues across the eastern United States. In 2025, she began a collaboration with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and others to explore our connections to community and nature in New England. The Ida Mae Specker Band features family members alongside Marc Edwards on guitar, Henry Clark on mandolin, and Mowgli Giannitti on upright bass.

We’re thrilled to announce our first ever residential retreat, an immersion into Embodied Voicework with pioneering vocalist, composer, music therapist, and cantor Lisa Sokolov. This is a 5-night residential retreat at the Abode of the Message in Upstate New York, with all meals included!

Fundraiser for the Montague Common Hall!
Acclaimed jazz musician (cornet, flugelhorn) Taylor Ho Bynum brings his quartet to Montague for a special concert and workshop! Bynum’s 20+ recordings as a bandleader, as well as close collaborations with legends like Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, and Bill Dixon, have earned him a reputation as an idiosyncratic master improvisor and composer.
The event begins with a participatory workshop at 4pm, in which musicians of all skill levels will work with Bynum on improvisation and “conduction” — a form of structured, facilitated improv. Alongside members of the iconic Montague Marching Band, workshop participants will have the opportunity to perform with Bynum later in the evening.
At 6:30pm, the concert kicks off with a short set by the Montague Marching Band, followed by a performance by Bynum and his quartet. The evening culminates in a large group composition/improvisation with community members and workshop participants.
This event is a special fundraiser for the Montague Common Hall, who have received a matching grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to complete much needed accessibility renovations!
